Why Extract Hair From the Sides and Back?

/

FUE and FUT have found proven success by using the sides and back of the head as donor areas for extracted hair grafts. This is because hair in these regions is typically genetically permanent. This means it is resistant to balding, and once placed on the scalp will be able to grow without worry about recurrent baldness.

Understanding the Cost Of Hair Transplants

Many of our patients have concerns about the cost of a hair transplant. While we can provide you with ranges, the only way to get a more customized quote is to visit our office for a consultation. During this visit, we will examine your scalp. We will also discuss your concerns and goals to reach an estimate of roughly how many grafts you will require. In other words, the severity of your hair loss and the amount of hair you wish to have transplanted will largely shape your treatment cost.

ProcedurePrice
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)$4,000 to $15,000
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT)$4,000 to $10,000
Facial hair transplants$3,000 to $15,000
Corrective surgery for hair transplants$4,000 to $15,000

Why Does FUE Cost More Than FUT?

Referencing these cost ranges, you'll see that the cost of FUE can be considerably more than FUT. However, many of our patients feel follicular unit extraction is well worth the additional investment because of its clear benefits. The technique harvests individual hair follicles instead of a strip of hair and tissue from the back of the head, which means it produces less scarring, involves an easier recovery, and naturally has a lower risk of complications.

“The cost was reasonable.” Patients Visit Houston to
Work With Dr. Arocha

"I've had numerous hair restoration procedures over the last 30 years in many different clinics and I can honestly say that Arocha Hair Restoration was by far the BEST. He gave 100% attention to me from the beginning consultation to throughout the whole procedure. He also offers other solutions to hair loss in addition to surgery. Most importantly is his aesthetic skill and focus on the end result. Also, the cost was reasonable and the staff was very transparent about the prices. I wish I had discovered Arocha Hair a lot sooner. I drove 200 miles to have my procedure, but I would have gladly flown across country." A B, 5-Star Google Review

Making Hair Transplants Affordable At Our Houston Office

Insurance

In the vast majority of cases, hair transplantation is not covered by insurance. This is because it is typically cosmetic in nature. However, in a very limited set of circumstances (for example, if your hair loss was caused by a medical condition) a hair transplant could be covered by insurance.

Financing

Since most patients do not receive insurance benefits for their surgery, Dr. Arocha sought a way to help patients with affordability. His search led him to accept CareCredit®, a third-party financier that allows his Houston hair transplant patients to pay for treatment in low to no interest monthly installments.

A Focus on Ethnic Hair Restoration

People of all hair textures and ethnic backgrounds have a place at Arocha Hair Restoration. Throughout his career, Dr. Arocha has worked with patients who reflect all aspects of Houston's rich cultural mix. Not all hair loss doctors may be able to help you achieve successful results for your hair type, but Dr. Arocha certainly can. Take a look at the outcomes two of his patients enjoyed after hair transplantation:

before FUE
Patient Before FUE This young man was dealing with early thinning in his hairline. Dr. Arocha determined that follicular unit extraction, or FUE, would be the best technique for restoration. He transplanted 1,200 follicular units along the frontal hairline and temples.
after FUE
Patient After FUE The second image was taken nine months after the patient's procedure. He healed quickly and has no visible scarring on the scalp. The transplanted hair grew in ideally and returned the patient's youthful, robust hairline.
before FUT
Patient Before FUT This young woman visited Dr. Arocha for help addressing thinning in the temples and sides of the scalp caused by traction alopecia. He determined that a follicular unit transplant, or FUT, would be right to meet the patient's goals.
after FUT
Patient After FUT 2,000 follicular units were used in the patient's procedure. In this second image, you can see that new growth is taking beautifully. It will continue to grow and build out a full, lush, and feminine hairline for this woman.

How Long Will It Be
Until I Can See Results?

After about three to six months, the transplanted follicles will start producing hair for the first time. In nine months it will be even more visible, with final results in as little as one year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Will It Be Until I Can See Results?

After about three to six months, the transplanted follicles will start producing hair for the first time. In nine months it will be even more visible, with final results in as little as one year.

How much will a female hairline hair transplant cost?

How much a hair transplant costs depends on many factors, including how much area needs to be covered, the number of grafts needed, the type of harvesting method, and your goals of density. An in-person evaluation would allow an experienced hair transplant surgeon to assess your case, design a pattern appropriate hairline and guide you as to the best approach. An approximate range could very well be between $7,000 and $10,000.

How can I tell if my hair transplant surgeon is qualified?

The gold standard for a hair transplant specialist is the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. It is the only Certifying Board recognized by ISHRS. The highest qualification within ISHRS is the Fellow of ISHRS. Realself has also carefully vetted its recommended surgeons.

How much growth should I expect to see 9 months after my hair transplant?

It is normal to see about 80% growth of the hair transplant between 4-8 months, the other 20% comes in by 9-12 months. However, there is further maturation which may enhance the final results still to come between 12-18 months.

Can I use hair products after a hair transplant?

Typically, we tell our patients that two to three weeks after a procedure, the products that were used prior to the procedure can be used again. That being said, please note that it is a rule of thumb that may not apply to every patient and every product. Please consult with your physician.

How should a surgeon assess hair transplant growth?

At four months, the hair transplant is still in infancy, proper evaluation would include palpation, or touching the transplanted area with your finger tips looking for prickly "stubble." Stubble represents recent growth, as grafts grow, stubble leads to softer hair. Furthermore, progress can be assessed with haircheck, and Trichoscan.

Who performs the hair transplant procedures at Arocha?

Dr. Arocha performs all surgeries. He does have technicians that assist during the procedure when extracting and placing, but Dr. Arocha is always present and performs the essential part of the surgery.

Which hair transplant method is best for me?

This depends on your goals, your donor area, if you prefer to wear your hair buzzed, and if you are a heavy weightlifter. Typically FUT’s are to be avoided if you prefer a buzz cut and if you deadlift fue is preferred. If you do deadlift and want an FUT, you will have to pause your workouts for the scar to heal, so it doesn’t stretch. We’ve had patients do FUT one year, and an FUE the next year. It really depends on your specific situation, which can be addressed in the free consultation with Dr. Arocha.

Am I a good candidate for a hair transplant?

The best way to know is to meet with a qualified hair restoration surgeon to properly assess your situation. Do not self diagnose. Most healthy men and women with active lifestyles are candidates for hair restoration surgery. Many patients report an increase in self-esteem and confidence after hair restoration surgery and are extremely happy they had the procedure. Young men and women who began losing hair in their early twenties have been especially excited to have their own natural hair restored.

Is there an age limit for hair transplants?

Many respected hair surgeons do not accept young patients. Instead, they recommend nonsurgical treatment options. They usually will tell you that they want to give the pattern time to mature and hair loss to stabilize. I would agree with standard medical therapy, but being younger in itself, is not a contra-indication to have appropriate hair restoration surgery! By appropriate,I mean to maximize facial framing, but not beyond the confines of a mature hairline, not the prepubescent hairline.
Unfortunately, sometimes in the mind of a younger patient, that teenage hairline is too well remembered and too strongly desired. Sometimes it may require more counselling and the tincture of time!

How long does a hair transplant procedure take?

A hair transplant at Arocha Hair Restoration starts at 7:30AM, with a break for lunch, and depending on your case, you could be done within a few hours, but may take longer. For smaller cases, such as eyebrows, these are done in about half of the time that larger hair transplants take.

Are hair transplants permanent?

Yes, a hair transplant is a permanent transplant as the donor hair is taken from the “safe zone” of the scalp meaning it usually is not affected by DHT.

Am I too bald to get a transplant?

It is important for Dr. Arocha to assess and evaluate you in person. This will guarantee the most accurate assessment of your individual condition. Dr Arocha always thinks outside the box to maximize his patients hair restoration outcomes!

Can women get hair transplants?

Yes, women can have hair transplants! We have a lot of female hair transplant patients. Every case varies, as some women need their scars to be filled in, whereas other women want to enhance their hairline. Some women’s recession might be more extreme, needing a few hair transplants in the area of concern. Women can also have PRP treatments done. At Arocha Hair Restoration we focus on the best treatment approach whether it is surgical or medical.

I got a botched hair transplant. Can you help me?

Yes, you can call us to get scheduled for a free consultation. Dr. Arocha has done many repair cases and can certainly give you guidance and the help you are looking for in a consultation.
