The field of hair replacement has advanced remarkably over the last several years. At Arocha Hair Restoration, our experienced hair restoration surgeon focuses on utilizing techniques proven to provide patients with effective hair loss treatment that yields natural-looking results. These techniques are not the “hair plug” treatments that were popular some time ago. Our procedures are truly state-of-the-art and are designed to restore your hair with results that look like it had never been lost.
The Hair Replacement Procedure
Hair replacement surgery typically involves the harvesting of natural, healthy hairs from the back and/or sides of the head and relocating them to the areas of lost hair. There are a variety of techniques that can be utilized for this process, including the advanced ARTAS® Robotic System. Dr. Bernardino Arocha will discuss your options with you during your initial, complimentary consultation and determine which will be best for your needs.
In most surgical hair replacement procedures, the process begins by having a small area at the back of the head shaved and prepared for removal. A local anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. Once this small strip of skin has been removed, the area will be carefully sutured together. As you can see in the photos below, residual scarring is typically very light and fades over time. Plus, it is often concealed by the hair that grows around it.
In the second stage of hair replacement surgery, follicular units from the strip of skin that has been removed will be precisely grafted onto the areas of hair loss. Since this is a very delicate procedure, the hair restoration process can take several hours to complete; however, the length of treatment time is ultimately dependent on your unique needs and the level of hair replacement you require.
Recovery
Recovery from hair replacement surgery is typically quick and relatively painless. Any mild discomfort in the days following treatment can often be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medication.

Results
After hair restoration surgery, the transplanted hairs will first grow and then fall out within about three or four weeks – this is normal. Over the next few months, the new and permanent hairs should begin to grow at about ¼ to a ½ inch per month. Dr. Arocha will place the hair grafts in such a way that it creates a very natural-looking pattern and “frame” for your face. The idea is to produce results that significantly restore your hair while making it appear as though you had never lost the hair in the first place.
In cases of male pattern baldness, Dr. Arocha will typically recommend medical treatment combined with hair replacement surgery for the best possible results.
