The eyebrows have a significant effect on the aesthetic of the entire face. They enhance the balance of facial features and play an integral part in one’s overall appearance. For many individuals, the eyebrow region can also be a source of extreme self-consciousness, particularly for those who have lost eyebrow hair, eyebrow density, and are noticing a marked difference in how they look. Fortunately, our board-certified hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Bernardino Arocha, offers advanced techniques that can restore hair in the eyebrows with results that look natural.
What causes hair loss in the eyebrows?
There are a number of factors that can contribute to loss of hair in the eyebrow hair. Genetics, traumatic injury, Alopetia Areata, an eyebrow scar, the natural aging process, nutritional deficiencies, and medical conditions such as thyroid disease or anemia have been known to cause eyebrow hair loss; however, one of the more common causes is over-plucking to achieve an eyebrow shape. Hair loss in the eyebrows due to grooming habits is somewhat similar to the traction alopecia that can develop in women who consistently have their hair pulled into tight braids or pony tails – over time, the stresses from these practices can ultimately cause hair loss.
What are the treatment options for hair loss in the eyebrow region?
Here at Arocha Hair Restoration, we offer state-of-the-art treatment options for eyebrow hair loss that can reshape and fill eyebrows utilizing many of the same surgical and non-surgical techniques designed to effectively treat pattern baldness.
Eyebrow Hair Transplant
Surgical hair transplantation procedures involve taking healthy strands of donor hair from the sides or back of your head and grafting them onto the eyebrow areas. Dr. Arocha has decades of experience with hair transplantation and combines advanced technology with precision technique to restore the appearance of the eyebrows with beautiful, natural-looking results. The hair will be transplanted in a very meticulous way, taking the angle, shape, and direction of the hair into account.
What is the Recovery Timeline?
In the first few weeks, patients should expect the hair to grow a small amount and then fall out (this is normal). Once this has occurred, hair growth can often be expected at about ¼ inch per month. The most noticeable results typically appear after about six months, with final results showing up after about 18 months. The transplanted hair should continue to grow at normal rates.

Non-Surgical and Eyebrow Touch-Up Options
Dr. Arocha also offers non-invasive options to restore eyebrow hair. Medical treatments such as ROGAINE® can often serve as an augment to surgical eyebrow hair restoration in order to enhance results. In some cases, ROGAINE® alone may be all that is necessary for optimal outcomes. Dr. Arocha will meet with you for an initial consultation to evaluate the extent of eyebrow hair loss and answer your questions about treatment options. Once he has determined the best path forward for your needs, he can create a customized treatment plan designed to provide the best possible eyebrow design.
