Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Restoration Surgery
Q. How do I know if I am a candidate for hair restoration surgery?
A. Most healthy men and women with active lifestyles are candidates for hair restoration surgery. Many patients report an increase in self-esteem and confidence after hair restoration surgery and are extremely happy they had the procedure. Young men and women that began losing hair in their early twenties were especially excited to have their own natural hair restored.
Q. Will insurance cover my hair restoration procedure?
A. Hair restoration is considered a cosmetic procedure and in most cases is not covered by insurance. At Arocha Hair Restoration, in addition to accepting all major credit cards, we offer financing options through our partnerships with CareCredit and Chase Health Advance.
Q. Will I be able to enjoy the same activities I enjoyed prior to hair replacement surgery?
A. The hair used in the restoration process is your own natural hair. It grows and responds to growth in the same way as your existing hair. Unlike other hair restoration options, you can enjoy any activities you enjoyed prior to your hair restoration.
Q. How long will it take me to recover from my hair restoration surgery?
A. Recovery after surgery is usually very quick. Most patients experience only minimal discomfort usually when they are sleeping as excess pressure is applied to the scalp as it is healing. Taking an over the counter medication such as Tylenol® or Motrin® is usually effective in relieving discomfort. In about 7 days following your hair restoration procedure, tiny brown scabs will shed and your scalp will return to its normal look and feel.
Q. Is hair restoration the only option available to me for restoring my hair and reducing baldness or thinning hair?
A. Both Rogaine® and Propecia® have been shown to be effective in restoring hair in limited degrees. The effectiveness of the topical solution varies from one person to the next. They can be effective in slowing or the stabilizing hair loss process and when used in conjunction with hair reduction surgery can be effective in preventing hair loss. Hair extensions are another popular hair restoration process. Hair extensions are the application of human hair to existing individual strands of hair. Providing the patient has enough hair to accomodate the extension process, the effect is temporary and must be repeated as the hair to which the extension is attached grows out.
