With men, even in the most severe degree of hair loss, the Norwood stage 7, hair continues to grow in the fringe area, on the sides and back of the head. Hair in this area is not sensitive to the effects of the DHT (male hormone metabolite). Hence, this hair will continue to grow in the transplanted area of your head for the rest of your life. You care for it, just like you care for the rest of your hair, because it is your very own hair. It will grow at the same rate as the rest of your hair, about one centimeter/ month (roughly the width of your pinky).
In women, hair is tranplanted to the thinning area to increase density. This added density makes it easier to style the hair.
